This past weekend, our scouts embarked on an exciting adventure at the picturesque Jack Graves Scout Reservation in Broken Arrow. Our days were filled with thrilling games and immersive outdoor activities that made for an unforgettable experience.

Our journey commenced around 10 am as we gathered to establish our campsite, creating a temporary haven in the heart of nature. The camp officially commenced with the opening Flag Ceremony, a moment that instilled in us a sense of unity and patriotism.

Following the ceremony, we set off on a nature hike, a voyage of discovery and exploration. Along the winding trail, we made several stops to identify an variety of flora in our path. Among the plant species we encountered were majestic oaks, delicate Bradford Pears, abundant pecan trees, and the notorious poison ivy. We couldn’t overlook Oklahoma’s emblematic Redbud, the state tree, which added a touch of local pride to our adventure. Alongside these natural wonders, we had a playful encounter with the imposing red ant mounds that speckled our route. As we ventured deeper into the trail, we reached a water reservoir where we indulged in the simple pleasure of skipping rocks across the surface.

After our invigorating hike, we returned to camp to refuel with a well-deserved lunch break. With appetites satisfied, our enthusiastic Scouts made their way to a nearby pond to test their angling skills. As is often the case in fishing, some had more luck than others in their quest to land the catch of the day. Regardless of the fish’s cooperation, the experience itself brought joy to all, and we were pleased to report that everyone left the pond with their fingers safely intact.

Once the Scouts returned to camp, they were divided into small groups. Each group was assigned the task of gathering wood, stacking it, and igniting their own campfire, armed only with matches. Each group successfully completed this challenging task, and they went on to prepare their own dinner. With options ranging from chicken and beef to potatoes and carrots, each scout created their own Cabbage Foil Pack dinner, which they cooked directly on the campfire they had just built.

After a satisfying dinner, we gathered around the campfire, settling into our seats for a night filled with skits, jokes, and the cherished tradition of s’mores. The crackling flames provided a proper backdrop for these moments of shared laughter and camaraderie.
To conclude our memorable weekend, our Scouts performed a dignified Flag Retirement ceremony, a symbol of their deep respect and reverence for our nation’s emblem.
This weekend was a testament to the enduring spirit of adventure, teamwork, and reverence that define our scouting family. With every challenge we embraced and every shared moment of joy, we strengthened our bonds and created cherished memories that will endure for years to come. Here’s to the promise of many more remarkable weekends in the great outdoors!
